About Issy
Began working at the Spanish Store, at age 13, delivering groceries. Retired 57 years later after a career of delivering information technology to corporate users and students.
I graduated from James Monroe HS in 1965 and attended Hunter College in the Bronx. I couldn't afford to attend full-time. So. I attended evening classes for the first three and a half years, working part-time at E.J. Korvettes. I switched to full-time days for the last one and a half years, graduating in 1971 with a BS in Chemistry. Six months before graduation. I married Nydia Soto, Andy's sister.
My first job was as an organic chemist with Revlon, on Zarega Ave. I was with Revlon for about one year, before being laid-off due to cutbacks. Within a few days I was hired by Avon Products. in Suffern NY. as a quality control chemist.
Shortly there after I brought a small house in Middletown NY and moved there. Nydia didn't like small town life. That, along with other problems that arose, resulted in our getting divorced.
After a couple of promotions the job required me to travel around the country. One of my frequent trips was to Rhode Island. I liked it. By then I'd married Barbara Hicks. She too liked Rhode Island. So. in 1977, we moved. Built a house on 2 1/4 acres and moved in two days before the Blizzard of '78.
After working for a couple of manufacturing companies. in 1980 we started our own. For the next eighteen years we produced custom advertising specialties and award medallions. finally closing down due to competition from the Orient.
With the introduction of the Personal Computer in the early '80s, I discovered a new passion, buying every book and magazine I could find, learning. I began building them, creating database applications, evaluating new software and writing for the Boston Computer Society. In 1998. I enrolled in the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer program at Roger Williams University.
In 1999 I began teaching evening classes in Information Systems at the New England Institute of Technology. In 2010 I began teaching classes in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics and retired in 2017.
From 1999-2011. I worked at the Griswold Rubber Company as the Manager of Information Systems. In 2011. I accepted a position as the Director of Information Technology for DiSanto Priest and Company, retiring in 2014.
In September of 2019, we went on a 15 day excursion, hosted by Road Scholar, to "The Best of Utah's Grand Circle of Parks and Monuments". The sights were truly amazing. The photos we took do not capture by stark beauty of nature. We'd love to go back.
Our daughter, who is now 36. moved in January 2017 from Rhode Island to NY and loves it. She moved into a small apartment in Astoria Queens, adopted black cat named Marty and began working in Manhattan as a senior editor for a media marketing company.
In August of 2021, she purchased a Co-Op apartment in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, where she enjoys close access to the theater and NY museums.
In 2022, she accepted a position as Manager of the Content Creation Department of another NY based media marketing company.
During the pandemic we pretty much lived in isolation from the world. No more going out for stuff, groceries were delivered and Amazon became our go-to department store. On those rare occasions when we did go out, we donned our N95 masks, except of course if we were just going for a ride in the car.
